Courtesy of Southeast Ventura County YMCA The Southeast Ventura County YMCA will host the inaugural Joel and Frances McCrea Memorial Award Gala at 6 p.m. Sat., Sept. 23 at the Four Seasons Hotel, 2 Dole Drive, Westlake Village.

Western movie star Joel Mc- Crea and his wife, Frances Dee, donated part of their sprawling family ranch between Thousand Oaks and Moorpark to the Y in 1964. That land would later become the Conejo Valley YMCA.

The family’s legacy lives on today through their grandson Wyatt McCrea, who remains an ardent supporter of the organization.

The Sept. 23 event, which will feature gourmet cuisine and music from Lenny Goldsmith and the New Old, will honor Doug and Penny Yarrow for their commitment to bring a new YMCA to Westlake Village.

The Yarrows’ son Patrick is CEO of the Triunfo Y, which hopes to move into its brand-new facility on Thousand Oaks Boulevard overlooking the valley by 2019.

Winners of the inaugural Community Leadership Awards will also be announced at the gala.

The awards will be given to community members who have made a positive impact through volunteering and who have inspired others to become involved.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Southeast Ventura County YMCA’s financial assistance programs and its free Safety Around Water course, which teaches children water safety and basic swimming skills.

The Y serves the Conejo Valley, Simi Valley, Westlake Village, Oak Park, Agoura Hills and Moorpark.

The cost of the gala is $275 per person, $525 per couple. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
